Appalachian Skies Media, based in Charleston, West Virginia, works in partnership with Minneapolis-based Breaking News Video Network (BNVN, on the web at bnvn.com) to regularly provide current video of weather events across the USA for national broadcast on The Weather Channel and other media outlets. Appalachian Skies owns and operates a mobile ENG (electronic news gathering) system specially equipped for coverage of weather events anywhere in the country.
Our vehicle is equipped with a satellite-based Baron weather data retrieval system, allowing constant monitoring of crucial weather information from anywhere in the country, including in areas without cell phone coverage or internet access. Our digital video cameras (HD now available) along with an in-vehicle nonlinear editing system and wireless internet access capability allows us to quickly feed breaking weather video from almost anywhere in the country.
With over 15 years of experience in weather observation and storm chasing along with our state-of-the-art equipment, we can safely locate breaking weather stories and often be the first and only source feeding video of the event. From winter storms to hurricanes to flash floods, Appalachian Skies has been able to consistently capture professional-quality dramatic video for our clients. Appalachian Skies provides the following services to news media outlets:
- Pre-contracted, on-location coverage of weather events anywhere in the USA, including hurricanes, winter storms, floods and severe weather outbreaks. We use our own cameras and editing equipment, and can feed video via internet FTP or direct dub to station decks.
- On-location telephone interviews from the 'heart of the storm', either live or recorded.
- Post-event video sales
- Stock video services through our StormScenes division.
Although most of our major event coverage is on a pre-contract basis, we frequently cover events on our own. Consequently we often have video of many major storm events available.
