Staying home this week

If there's one thing I've become quite good at, it's dealing with a change of plans. I found out tonight that our Kansas trip scheduled for this week has been postponed to a later date (specifics unknown). So, despite the severe weather setups looking pretty good out west through the weekend, without another reason to be there, this is possibly the worst time for me to make a long trip just to chase. As it was, I was already going to have to communicate with my accountant via phone from the road to deal with tax time - including writing checks to the IRS and state from my car and mailing them in whatever town I happened to be passing through. So, a chase expedition just doesn't seem like a smart thing to do at this point.

No big deal though. It's early in the season, and there will be many more chase opportunities to be had later. If I headed west this week, I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself on account of all the stuff I'd be having to deal with back here. And the trees aren't even green yet - doesn't seem like 'chase season' out there (the only thing I don't like about early April chases). In the end, chasing is about having fun - if the trip's not enjoyable and relatively care-free, then even seeing tornadoes isn't going to be worth spending the money on it. May is not far off.....
